Abstract

The chapter delves into the application of biodegradable filaments for 3D printing, filled with biomass from the Mediterranean region. It highlights the potential of Chamaerops humilis as a natural reinforcement for PLA composites, detailing the processing techniques, thermal properties, and mechanical characterization of these materials. The study emphasizes the significant increase in elastic modulus achieved with 20% filler content, suggesting enhanced stiffness. However, it also addresses the challenges related to interfacial bonding, fiber orientation, and manufacturing process parameters. The research underscores the need for further optimization to fully harness the benefits of natural fillers in sustainable materials, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field.
