Abstract

The study investigates the effectiveness of biomass-based polymers, such as papaya extract, buckwheat flour, and flaxseed, as drag-reducing agents in aqueous systems. Experiments were conducted to measure the maximum drag reduction and identify key parameters affecting this phenomenon. The combination of flaxseed and polyacrylamide (PAM) showed the most promising results, achieving up to 32% drag reduction. The impact of saltwater concentration on drag reduction was also examined, revealing that increased salt concentration negatively affects drag reduction. The research highlights the potential of biomass-based polymers in optimizing energy efficiency in various applications, including oil pipelines, firefighting equipment, and ship hull design.
