Abstract

The article delves into the bioinspired design of biopolymer composites, emphasizing the crucial role of morphology in regulating mechanical tunability for various biomedical applications. It explores how the structural design of biopolymers can be tailored to achieve specific properties, such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical strength, making them ideal for drug delivery systems, tissue regeneration, and wound healing. The review discusses advanced fabrication techniques, including 3D printing and electrospinning, and their impact on the mechanical and biomedical properties of these composites. It also highlights the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence in designing application-specific biopolymer composites, paving the way for personalized medicine and innovative biomedical constructs. The article provides a detailed analysis of the mechanical properties of biopolymer composites at different length scales, from nano to macro, and their implications for biomedical applications. It concludes by discussing the future prospects of biopolymer composites in regenerative medicine, emphasizing the need for dynamic and tunable materials that can mimic the extracellular matrix and support cellular processes.
