Abstract

This chapter delves into the preparation, characterization, and evaluation of biochar derived from orange peel waste for the removal of synthetic dyes, specifically methylene blue and methylene red, from industrial wastewater. The study employs a novel synthesis technique to create biochar, which is then characterized using FTIR and XRD to understand its bonding nature and functional groups. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm studies reveal that the biochar effectively removes dyes from wastewater, with equilibrium times exceeding 180 minutes. The Langmuir isotherm model best fits the adsorption data, indicating a monolayer adsorption process. The study also compares the performance of biochar with gelatine, highlighting the superior adsorption capacity of biochar. The results demonstrate the potential of orange peel waste-derived biochar as a green adsorbent for treating industrial wastewater, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution for pollutant removal.
