Convergence analysis of a finite difference scheme for a two-point boundary value problem with a Riemann–Liouville–Caputo fractional derivative

The Riemann–Liouville–Caputo (RLC) derivative is a new class of derivative that is motivated by modelling considerations; it lies between the more familiar Riemann–Liouville and Caputo derivatives. The present paper studies a two-point boundary …

Nonstandard finite element de Rham complexes on cubical meshes

Two general operations are proposed on finite element differential complexes on cubical meshes that can be used to construct and analyze sequences of “nonstandard” convergent methods. The first operation, called DoF-transfer, moves edge degrees of …

Computable upper error bounds for Krylov approximations to matrix exponentials and associated -functions

An a posteriori estimate for the error of a standard Krylov approximation to the matrix exponential is derived. The estimate is based on the defect (residual) of the Krylov approximation and is proven to constitute a rigorous upper bound on the …

Affine zipper fractal interpolation functions

This paper introduces a univariate interpolation scheme using a binary parameter called signature such that the graph of the interpolant—which we refer to as affine zipper fractal interpolation function—is obtained as an attractor of a suitable …

Application of CCC–Schoenberg operators on image resampling

Image resampling is a widely used tool in image processing. The upsampling increases the number of pixels and introduces new information to the image which can have undesired effects, like ringing artifacts and oscillations, aliasing “jagged” …

About this journal

BIT was started by Carl Erik Fröberg in 1961. The name is an acronym for "Tidskrift för Informationsbehandling" read backwards. From the outset, a wide area of computer science and technology was covered, but since 1992 the focus has been on Numerical Mathematics.

Editors-in-Chief
1961-1992 Carl Erik Fröberg
1993-2002 Åke Björck
2003-2015 Axel Ruhe† (Axel passed away suddenly on April 4, 2015)
2015 to present Lars Eldén

Owner
BIT foundation, Lund, Sweden

Board
Appointed by the Academies of (Engineering) sciences in the Nordic Countries for three year periods.

The members from 2016 are:
Olavi Nevanlinna, Aalto University, appointed by STA, Suomalainen Tiedakatemia, Finland, (Chairman)
Allan Peter Engsig-Karup, Technical University of Denmark, appointed by ATV, Akademiet for de Tekniske Videnskaber, Denmark
Bo Kågström, Umeå University, appointed by IVA, Kungliga Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien, Sweden
Tom Lyche, University of Oslo, appointed by DNVA, Det Norske Videnskaps-Akademi, Norway
Lars Eldén, Linköping University

Aims and Scope
BIT publishes original research papers in the rapidly developing field of numerical analysis. The essential areas covered by BIT are development and analysis of numerical methods as well as the design and use of algorithms for scientific computing. Topics emphasized by BIT include numerical methods in approximation, linear algebra, and ordinary and partial differential equations, but BIT also publishes papers in areas such as numerical functional analysis and numerical optimization.

News
Next BIT Circus for young researchers is planned August 26-27, 2015 in Umeå:
