Abstract

This chapter delves into the pressing environmental issues of the textile industry, emphasizing the need for a transition to a circular economy. It introduces the concept of lateral transshipment as a strategic solution to minimize waste and resource consumption. The study proposes a Blockchain Enabled Lateral Transshipment (BELT) framework, which leverages blockchain technology and smart contracts to enhance transparency, traceability, and efficiency in the redistribution of unsold textile products. The framework includes a dual-ledger system and smart contracts that automate inventory management and transshipment processes. The chapter also discusses the advantages and challenges of implementing blockchain technology in supply chain operations, providing a detailed overview of the BELT framework and its potential benefits for the textile industry. By promoting sustainable practices and improving supply chain agility, the BELT framework offers a promising approach to addressing the environmental challenges faced by the textile industry.
