Abstract

This chapter delves into the accuracy of 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) using point clouds generated by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The research compares manual measurements of various structural elements—such as columns, beams, architectural features, pipes, and bridge pillars—with their corresponding BIM models. The study employs the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) method to evaluate the accuracy of these models. Key findings include an average accuracy of 94.6% for concrete structures, 98.5% for architectural elements, 56.5% for pipe elements, and 96.3% for bridge pillars. The research concludes that UAV-derived point clouds are a viable and cost-effective method for 3D BIM modeling, particularly for rectangular cubic elements. The study also recommends using programmed flight mission paths for more consistent and accurate results in future research.
