Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical issue of burnout and workload among healthcare professionals in Bulgaria. It discusses the challenges posed by excessive work hours, shift work, and staff shortages, which contribute to burnout and potential safety issues in patient care. The study employs a cross-sectional survey using V. Boyko’s Burnout Inventory, a method with excellent psychometric characteristics, to assess burnout levels among a diverse group of healthcare professionals. The research aims to validate or refute existing findings on the relationship between workload and burnout, offering a comprehensive analysis of burnout's phases and symptoms. The chapter highlights the importance of understanding burnout dynamics to improve working conditions and patient safety in the healthcare sector.
