Camera monitor systems can replace conventional outside rearview mirrors. This reduces the frontal area of the car and its fuel consumption. But these human-machine interfaces also help make complete views around the vehicle possible without blind spots, so road safety is improved. BMW and Ulm University of Applied Sciences have examined three design examples for these systems, approved since 2016, in more detail in a technology overview. …
