Abstract

This chapter delves into the critical role of performance appraisal satisfaction in enhancing lecturer performance at Indonesian universities. It begins by discussing the challenges faced by higher education institutions in the face of globalization and technological change, emphasizing the need for effective human resource management strategies. The study introduces performance appraisal as a crucial tool for improving individual performance and overall institutional quality. It then explores the influence of organizational justice and trust on performance appraisal satisfaction and lecturer performance, drawing on social exchange theory and goal-setting theory. The authors present a comprehensive research model and methodology, including a cross-sectional survey of lecturers from accredited faculties of economics and business. The results highlight the positive effects of organizational justice and trust on performance appraisal satisfaction and lecturer performance, underscoring the importance of fairness and trust in the implementation of performance appraisal systems. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the implications for higher education institutions seeking to enhance lecturer performance and institutional quality.
