Abstract

Massive industrial activities in the modern world since centuries have now resulted in an ecological disparity which is reflected as climatic change across the globe. Carbon capture storage (CCS) has proved itself to be one of the most promising technologies which can abate the emissions associated with industrialized processes and can prevent a large amount of carbon dioxide from entering into the atmosphere. This paper presents the various state-of-the-art capturing technologies that can reduce more than 85% of CO2. These techniques are principally known as post-combustion, pre-combustion and oxy-fuel combustion system. The entire aspect of these technologies has been reviewed and compared. These above-mentioned techniques form a bridge towards a sustainable energy production. Additionally, various recent challenges and breakthroughs involving transportation and storage of CO2 are hereby discussed as well. Moreover, many recent innovative methodologies which have been identified by the prominent research organizations along with the application of applied sciences are well versed discussed in this paper. The technological aspects related to CCS and its advancement and impact in developing nations that demand the usage of sustainable CCS systems across the world are discussed in detail. Lastly, the sustainability facets of many different private and governmental organizations and respective measures to mitigate the challenges are identified and presented in the paper.
