Abstract

Carbon dots (CDs), quasi-spherical carbon nanoparticles with diameters ranging from a few nanometers to tens of nanometers, have emerged as a revolutionary material in the field of nanotechnology. This article delves into the basics of CDs, highlighting their unique optical, electrical, and chemical properties. It then explores the recent potential biomedical applications of CDs, such as their use in bioimaging, drug delivery, and biosensing. The article also addresses the challenges faced in the synthesis, characterization, and large-scale production of CDs. Furthermore, it offers a perspective on the future of CDs, discussing potential breakthroughs and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to overcome existing hurdles. By providing a holistic view of CDs, this article aims to inspire further research and development in this exciting field.
