Yin (2003) considers a case-study approach to have a distinct advantage in situations when ‘how’ or ‘why’ questions are asked about a contemporary set of events over which the investigator has little or no control. The reason for selecting casebased method is that it is widely recognized as an effective means for unpacking complex concepts as a path to the development of an explanatory theory (Meredith 1998). According to Yin (1994), case studies are rich, empirical descriptions of the particular instances of a phenomenon that are typically a combination of various data sources.
