Abstract

The article delves into the innovative field of self-healing materials, inspired by biological systems, with a focus on castor oil-based polyurethanes. The research explores the integration of multiple hydrogen bonding and disulfide bonds to enhance the self-repairing capabilities of these materials. By varying the ratios of these components, the study examines how different compositions affect the mechanical properties and self-healing efficiency of the polyurethanes. The synthesis process involves the use of modified castor oil as the soft segment, along with specific self-healing components, to create a series of polyurethanes with tailored properties. The characterization of these materials includes Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry, providing a detailed understanding of their structural and thermal behaviors. The article also discusses the self-healing mechanism, highlighting the dynamic reversible reactions that enable the material to repair itself under external stimuli. The findings reveal a trade-off between self-healing efficiency and mechanical strength, offering insights into optimizing the balance for practical applications. Additionally, the study demonstrates the recyclability and reprocessability of the castor oil-based polyurethanes, further emphasizing their potential for sustainable and durable materials.
