Abstract

The article delves into the challenges of heavy oil and bitumen extraction due to their high viscosity and density. It highlights the significance of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods, particularly In-Situ Combustion (ISC), for maximizing crude oil extraction. The study focuses on the role of catalysts, specifically Cobalt-ligated catalysts derived from renewable resources like sunflower oil and tall oil, in enhancing the oxidation process of heavy oil. Through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) experiments, the paper evaluates the catalytic performance of these catalysts, revealing their potential to significantly improve the kinetics of heavy oil oxidation. The findings suggest that these catalysts can optimize ISC processes, making heavy oil recovery more efficient and environmentally friendly. The study's detailed analysis of oxidation kinetics and activation energy offers valuable insights into the optimization of heavy oil recovery techniques, making it a compelling read for professionals in the field.
