Abstract

The article delves into the multistep transformation of hemicellulose into 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), a key biomass-derived building block for bioplastics. It begins with the hydrolysis of hemicellulose from Camellia oleifera shell to release furfural, optimizing yield through response surface methodology. Furfural is then oxidized to furoic acid over a cobalt-based single-atom catalyst, followed by the carboxylation of cesium furoate to produce FDCA. The study also explores the valorization of biochar formed during carboxylation as an efficient adsorbent. The research offers a competitive and cost-effective route for FDCA production from lignocellulose, with significant implications for the development of sustainable bioplastics.
