Abstract

The article delves into the history of the Association for Media and Technology in Education in Canada (AMTEC), established in 1973 to support the use of educational technology. The AMTEC History Project, marking the 50th anniversary of AMTEC, aims to preserve and celebrate the legacy of educational technology in Canada. This initiative involves collecting and digitizing materials, conducting video interviews with influential members, and creating a publicly accessible archive. The project highlights the evolution of AMTEC from its roots in organizations like the Canadian Audio-Visual Association (CAVA) and its connections to global entities such as the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). The article also discusses the future plans for the project, including the creation of virtual and physical retrospectives, and the importance of preserving this historical record for future research and educational purposes.
