Abstract

The chapter delves into the growing issue of payment card waste and its potential as a reinforcing material in cement mortar. With over 30,000 payment cards produced daily in Poland alone, the environmental impact of discarded plastic cards is significant. The study investigates the use of these fibers in cement mortar, highlighting their potential to enhance both compressive and flexural strength. Experimental results show that the addition of 2.5% card fibers by weight of the aggregate yields the optimal improvement in mechanical properties, suggesting a viable solution for reducing plastic waste while enhancing construction materials. The chapter also discusses the broader implications for sustainable construction practices and waste management, making it a compelling read for those interested in innovative and eco-friendly building materials.
