CervicoXNet: an automated cervicogram interpretation network

Abstract   

Cervical cancer remains a significant global health burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This study introduces CervicoXNet, a custom convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture designed to automate the interpretation of cervicograms for cervical cancer screening. The proposed model, consisting of six convolutional layers, demonstrates superior performance in classifying and localizing pre-cancerous lesions, achieving high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. By combining Grad-CAM and Guided Backpropagation, CervicoXNet provides interpretable results, highlighting the exact regions of pre-cancerous lesions. The model's simplicity and efficiency make it suitable for real-time clinical applications, addressing the challenges of limited resources in LMICs. This research not only validates the effectiveness of cervicography as an alternative to colposcopy but also underscores the potential of AI in enhancing cervical cancer screening and early detection.
