Abstract

The chapter delves into the use of CFD to model and visualize fluid flow in a single-acting vane pump, focusing on cavitation and its impact on pump efficiency. It begins with an introduction to vane pumps and their advantages over gear pumps, followed by a detailed explanation of the CFD approach and the assumptions made in the simulations. The authors present both 2D and 3D CFD analyses, comparing the results with experimental data obtained from a high-speed camera. The chapter highlights the complex flow phenomena within the pump, such as cavitation and vane detachment, and discusses the limitations of both simulation and experimental methods. It concludes by suggesting future research directions to improve the understanding of these phenomena.
