Abstract

This chapter delves into the characterization of self-assembled bioflocculants for the remediation of pollutants in dairy wastewater. It explores the advantages of these bioflocculants over conventional chemical treatments, focusing on their chemical properties and mechanisms of action. The text discusses the synthesis process, including the isolation and cultivation of extremophilic bacteria, extraction and purification of exopolysaccharides (EPS), and the self-assembly process of bioflocculants. It also highlights the use of advanced techniques such as Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) for characterizing bioflocculants. The chapter emphasizes the importance of understanding the polyanionic properties and flocculation mechanisms of bioflocculants in optimizing their performance. It concludes by discussing the scalability and practical applications of bioflocculants, their environmental impact, and future research directions. The text provides a comprehensive overview of the potential of bioflocculants in sustainable wastewater treatment, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field.
