A prototype for a charging station with an output of up to 450 kW has been unveiled as part of the "Fastcharge" project. The new fast charging station reduces charging times significantly.

The prototype of a charging station with an output of up to 450 kW was unveiled in Jettingen-Scheppach, Bavaria. Two electric vehicles, which also emerged from this research project, could be charged in less than three minutes for the first 100 km of range or fully charged in 15 minutes (10 to 80 percent state of charge (SoC)). The charging station is suitable for electric models with the Type 2 variant of the Combined Charging System (CCS), which is widely used worldwide. The station is now available for use free of charge.
At the charging station, Siemens provides the power supply with voltages of up to 920 V. Phoenix Contact supplies the water-cooled HPC (High Power Charging) cables used to deliver the high output. The new ultra-fast charging station can be used for vehicles with both 400 V and 800 V battery systems. BMW, Allego, Phoenix Contact E-Mobility, Porsche and Siemens are members of the "Fastcharge" research project initiated in 2016. The project has received 7.8 million euros in funding from the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
