Excerpt

The electrification of heavy-duty transport is gaining momentum, with Austria and Germany showing significant growth in electric truck registrations. This shift necessitates the development of efficient charging infrastructure, particularly charging parks designed for electric trucks. AVL and OMV have developed a tool to optimize the design of these charging parks, considering components such as grid connection, energy storage systems, and charging points. The tool, implemented in Microsoft Excel with VBA macros, allows for detailed simulations over flexible time periods, enabling the analysis of various scenarios. Three distinct scenarios are presented: one with a large stationary battery, one with a limited grid connection power, and one without a stationary battery. The tool's application is demonstrated using traffic data from Kufstein, Austria, and considering four different truck types. The results show that the optimal configuration of grid connection power and stationary battery size depends on specific requirements and energy demand. The text concludes by discussing the economic factors and local conditions that influence the decision on which configuration to implement.
