Abstract

This chapter delves into the chemical profiling of essential oils derived from Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus cinerea, highlighting their potential as natural insecticides. The study focuses on the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae, a significant pest threatening global food security. Through detailed chemical analysis, the chapter identifies key compounds such as 1,8-cineole, limonene, and terpinen-4-ol, and their roles in inhibiting acetylcholinesterase and chitin synthase, crucial enzymes in insect physiology. The chapter also explores the practical applications of these essential oils as fumigants, demonstrating their effectiveness in controlling rice weevil populations. Additionally, the in silico study provides insights into the molecular mechanisms behind the insecticidal properties of these essential oils, offering a promising alternative to synthetic pesticides.
