Abstract

The chapter delves into China's economic diplomacy in Brazil, particularly focusing on the energy sector under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It analyzes the complex relationship between China and Brazil, highlighting the impact of Bolsonaro's alignment with the US and the challenges faced by China's investments in the country. The study cases of State Grid's acquisitions and investments in Brazil's energy sector, such as the CPFL and Belo Monte Dam projects, are examined to illustrate China's strategic approach. The chapter also discusses the broader implications of China's economic diplomacy on Brazil's economic development and its potential for technological cooperation under the BRI.
