Abstract

The study investigates the physiological and morphological alterations in mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) leaves due to chromium (Cr 6+) toxicity. It focuses on the effects of Cr 6+ on stomatal conductance, photosynthesis rate, and transpiration rate, as well as the distribution and shape of trichomes. The research also examines the role of phytohormones such as abscisic acid, salicylic acid, and jasmonate in modulating stomatal guard cell regulation under heavy metal stress. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of how chromium stress affects two Indian landraces of mung bean, providing valuable insights into plant resistance mechanisms against abiotic stressors. The use of advanced techniques such as confocal microscopy and phytohormone estimation offers a detailed understanding of the plant's response to chromium toxicity, making the study a significant contribution to the field of plant stress physiology.
