34 years ago I witnessed the wine scandal in Austria. Some wineries mixed wine with substances that were not allowed, discrediting an entire industry. The media jumped at it, the economic damage was preprogrammed, bans were imposed as a precaution and the danger of ad hoc legislation was on the horizon. Sounds familiar? What happened in the years that followed can be considered highly remarkable. The next generation of winemakers has not allowed itself to be held up, they have worked on further developing their products in accordance with the rules and have consistently addressed the issue of quality.
