Abstract

The article delves into the design of an intelligent assistant to support classroom orchestration in game-based problem-based learning (PBL) environments. It identifies the challenges teachers face in managing PBL classrooms, such as monitoring multiple groups and providing timely support. The study emphasizes the potential of technology to alleviate these challenges by capturing and analyzing student data in real-time. The authors describe the co-design process involving teachers to ensure the assistant meets their practical needs. The article also outlines the three key phases of guidance the assistant will provide: prospective, concurrent, and retrospective. Additionally, it discusses the tensions between researchers' and teachers' goals and the importance of balancing these perspectives in the design process. The authors conclude by highlighting the need for further evaluation and refinement of the assistant in real classroom settings.
