Larger ships and stationary power generation still rely on combustion engines. AVL ran three different fuels - diesel, natural gas and hydrogen - each with a specific mixture formation and combustion system on a test engine and investigated their CO2 reduction potential. The unit was a single-cylinder engine with a 175 mm bore, developed for an effective mean pressure of 35 bar and a maximum peak cylinder pressure of 330 bar. …
