Abstract

In the context of resource-constrained societies, codesign plays a crucial role in continued acceptance and usage of designed solutions which can be in the form of frugal innovations. Many studies have explored codesign in resource-constrained societies, defining involvement of resource-constrained people in design projects using various perspectives and describing sources initiating codesign activities. However, there is lack of analysis of these definitions and of various sources that initiate codesign activities with resource-constrained people. To address this, we employ a systematic literature review (SLR) approach to understand main sources and definitions of codesign in resource-constrained societies. We discuss implications of review findings for codesigning solutions with resource-poor people and offer suggestions for further scholarly exploration of codesign with resource-constrained people.
