Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricate relationship between China and MENA states, particularly focusing on the Uyghur crisis and the economic leverage China exerts over these states. It examines the forcible repatriation of Uyghurs, the 'Xinjiang letters', and the UN Human Rights Council vote, highlighting the complicity and silence of MENA states in the face of China's human rights violations. The text also explores the genocidal process in XUAR, the cultural and religious eradication, and the transnational dimensions of Beijing's reach. It concludes by emphasizing the extent to which economic coercion and sharp power have reshaped international institutions, making this a pivotal read for understanding the complex geopolitical dynamics at play.
