Abstract

The article investigates the effects of thermal aging on the combustion performance of asphalt blended with ATH/ZB flame retardant. It compares the physical properties, such as viscosity, softening point, penetration, and ductility, of both aged and non-aged asphalt samples. The study also delves into the chemical changes in the asphalt, analyzing functional groups like C=O and S=O using FTIR. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone calorimeter tests are employed to evaluate the combustion performance, revealing how thermal aging affects the flame retardant's effectiveness. The research highlights the significant impact of aging on the asphalt's combustion behavior and the need for optimizing flame retardant formulations to enhance both basic performance and fire safety.
