Abstract

The chapter 'Commitment Tactics in Bargaining Under Complete Information' delves into the historical and theoretical evolution of commitment tactics in bargaining. Starting with the pioneering work of Zeuthen and Nash, it explores how parties use commitments to influence bargaining outcomes. The chapter highlights the key findings of models that predict inefficiencies due to uncertain commitment success. It also discusses the relevance of these models in explaining real-world bargaining failures, such as labor disputes and international negotiations. The theoretical developments are summarized, and the chapter concludes by discussing the future directions of research in this field, emphasizing the need for a more descriptive approach that accounts for institutional and behavioral factors.
