Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of biodiversity conservation, particularly focusing on the subtropical Atlantic Forest. It highlights the challenges in modeling rare tree species due to limited occurrence data and proposes the use of common tree species as surrogates. The methodology involves employing correlative species distribution models and principal component analysis to create priority ranking maps for both common and rare species. The study aims to determine whether common species can serve as effective surrogates for rare ones and assesses the coverage of current protected areas. This approach offers a robust framework for conservation planning, ensuring efficient resource allocation and protection of critical biodiversity hotspots.
