Mobile machines need to fulfill a huge variety of requirements. For example, they are not only used for driving, they also have to carry out different types of mechanical work. Both of these functions are performed by at least one powertrain. Due to the many different applications that are possible for mobile machines, there are various solutions just for the driving powertrain alone. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has developed a torque split drivetrain than can be driven by any kind of power source. The special feature of the torque split drivetrain is that it no longer has any differentials, but only fixed gear stages (rigid all-wheel drive). This means that maximum traction is achieved when driving straight ahead. Each driven wheel also has a superimposed transmission in the lateral torque distribution.
