Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi is focusing on other markets, but does not want to abandon Europe altogether. Two new models based on the Renault platform are to be launched in 2023.

Mitsubishi Motors wants to sell OEM models from Renault under the Mitsubishi brand in selected markets in Europe in the future. Starting in 2023, Mitsubishi Motors will sell two sister models produced at Renault Group plants. The move is intended to expand competitiveness, although the Japanese car maker had announced last year that it would be withdrawing from Europe.

With the realignment of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, Mitsubishi now sees its most important markets outside Europe. According to its strategy, Mitsubishi is planning an electric vehicle for China in fiscal 2021 that will be developed together with GAC, in addition to the Eclipse Cross PHEV already unveiled for Europe. The new Outlander is also planned for fiscal 2021, and the PHEV model for 2022. However, it is questionable whether these models will also come to Europe.
