Abstract

This article delves into the comparative analysis of calcium-magnesium composite treatments aimed at modifying inclusions in AH36 ship plate steel, a critical material in shipbuilding and marine engineering. The study explores the impact of different calcium-magnesium ratios and addition sequences on the evolution of inclusions, utilizing both thermodynamic calculations and high-temperature experiments. Key findings reveal that the sequence of magnesium followed by calcium treatment results in the smallest inclusion sizes and the highest proportion of liquid phase inclusions, significantly improving steel performance. The article also highlights the formation of composite inclusions with a magnesium-aluminum spinel core and calcium aluminate wrapping, which effectively reduces nozzle clogging and enhances steel castability. Additionally, the study provides a detailed comparison of different treatment methods, offering practical insights for optimizing steel quality and performance in marine applications.
