Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive study on predicting the tensile strength of limestone in both dry and saturated conditions. It highlights the importance of accurate tensile strength estimation for various engineering applications. The authors compare traditional 1D regression analysis with advanced evolutionary polynomial regression models developed using the EPR-MOGA algorithm. The research involves an extensive experimental program to collect and analyze limestone samples from different regions in Iraq. The findings reveal that the new models using EPR-MOGA provide enhanced prediction accuracy compared to simple regression analysis. The study also emphasizes the impact of saturation on the tensile strength of limestone, which has been under-explored in previous studies. The developed models can significantly aid rock engineers in optimizing predictions and ensuring the reliability of engineering designs involving limestone.
