Abstract

The chapter explores the significance of rainfall variability in India, emphasizing its impact on agriculture, water resources, and climate change. It introduces the innovative trend analysis (ITA) method, comparing it with the classical Mann–Kendall test to detect long-term trends in rainfall patterns. The study reveals regional variations in rainfall trends, indicating decreasing trends in central and western India and increasing trends in the north and southwest. The ITA method is shown to be more effective in identifying trends, especially in data points overlooked by traditional methods. The findings underscore the importance of advanced trend analysis for better water resource management and disaster mitigation.
