Abstract

This chapter explores the critical role of pedestrian behavior in traffic safety, with a specific focus on start-up times at signalized intersections lacking countdown displays. The study investigates the behavior of female pedestrians across five cities, utilizing an innovative integrated Fuzzy FUCOM-MARCOS model to evaluate and compare intersections. The research reveals significant variations in start-up times among different age groups and cities, with Bijeljina and Novi Sad emerging as exemplary in pedestrian behavior. The analysis employs a rigorous methodology, including a comparative study with six other MCDM tools and a sensitivity analysis with 40 scenarios, ensuring the reliability and depth of the findings. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the implications for traffic system efficiency and safety, paving the way for future research into the underlying causes of observed behavioral differences.
