Abstract

The article addresses the issue of ground vibrations caused by high-speed trains, which can damage sensitive devices and structures. It discusses the use of open trenches and infilled trenches as vibration barriers, with a focus on composite sand-crumb rubber and geofoam materials. The study presents a finite element analysis to evaluate the efficiency of these barriers, comparing their performance with other materials such as concrete and wave impeding blocks. The authors highlight the advantages of using recycled materials like sand-crumb rubber to reduce construction costs and environmental impact. The analysis considers various factors such as trench depth, width, and location, and provides insights into the optimal design and placement of these barriers. The results show that composite barriers can significantly reduce vibration levels, making them a promising solution for mitigating train-induced ground vibrations.
