Abstract

The chapter delves into the extensive metallurgical test work conducted on the Los Azules copper project, focusing on leachability across various lithologies and mineralization zones. Phase 1 utilized existing core material to establish foundational data on ore characteristics and leach kinetics, revealing moderate ore hardness and varying copper solubility. Phase 2 incorporated new drill core samples, refining testing methodologies and highlighting the impact of column height on leaching performance. Phase 3 introduced innovative acid management strategies, including sulfur-assisted bioleaching and the evaluation of wetting agents, demonstrating significant improvements in copper recovery and acid consumption. The findings from these phases provide critical insights for process design, operational optimization, and cost-saving strategies, contributing to the development of economically viable and environmentally responsible approaches for porphyry copper deposits.
