Abstract

The article explores the use of a high-concentration perchlorate-based electrolyte consisting of Zn(ClO 4 ) 2 and NaClO 4 for aqueous zinc-ion batteries. This electrolyte facilitates the formation of a Zn 5 (OH) 8 Cl 2 ·H 2 O-rich solid electrolyte interphase, which protects the Zn anode from corrosion and reduces interfacial polarization. The electrolyte demonstrates stable Zn plating/stripping over 3000 hours and enhances the cycling stability of MnO 2 ||Zn full cells. The addition of NaClO 4 disrupts water activity, broadens the electrochemical window, and decreases the freezing point of the electrolyte, making it suitable for both room and low-temperature applications. The study highlights the potential of high-concentration perchlorate-based electrolytes in advancing aqueous energy storage devices.
