Abstract

The chapter concludes a study on the potential of border art to challenge political rhetoric and promote ecological awareness. It discusses how art can reconfigure borders, drawing attention to marginalized spaces and engaging viewers with nonhuman entities. The Repellent Fence installation by Postcommodity is highlighted as a prime example, using balloons to create a porous and vacillating border that critiques the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border. The chapter also explores the work of other borderlands artists, such as Daniel Leivick and Susan Harbage Page, whose work contributes to a border ecology by emphasizing the interconnectedness of human and nonhuman interests in the borderlands.
