Footnotes
1
In 2016 Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google Inc., established a subsidiary dedicated to self-driving cars, called Waymo LLC. The firm announced a plan to conduct a joint research project with Honda R&D Co., Ltd., a research and development subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., on autonomous driving technology in the US (ITmedia 2016). Also, Uber and other car dispatch services have been spreading globally, intensifying market competition. The relationship between these firms and traditional automotive firms is attracting the attention of researchers (Wall Street Journal 2016).

2
1 Simon (1962) provided a detailed description of the design evolution process but not as much information on the limitations of the human cognitive capacity.

3
The object-oriented design method is an approach to modularization design that gives consideration to the relationship between design elements.
