Abstract

This chapter delves into the comparative analysis of Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) and vehicular cloud networks for enhancing freeway mobility management. It explores the challenges faced by VANETs, such as system overload and communication reliability, and presents vehicular clouds as a promising solution. The study evaluates the performance of stationary and dynamic vehicular clouds under different traffic scenarios and communication protocols, including DSRC, C-V2X, LTE-4G, and 5G. It also assesses the impact of Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) platooning and incident management strategies on mobility and communication efficiency. The findings highlight the advantages of vehicular clouds in reducing latency, packet loss, and travel time delays, particularly in dense traffic conditions. The chapter concludes that vehicular clouds, especially platoon-based models, offer significant improvements in mobility and communication performance compared to traditional VANET systems.
