Abstract

This chapter delves into the significant role of online social networks in shaping recycling habits among users. It begins by highlighting the increasing prevalence and influence of social media platforms, with a particular focus on Facebook's user base. The study then transitions to the critical issue of resource management and recycling trends, noting the slight decrease in recycling rates for certain materials. The authors present a literature review on recycling practices and determinant factors, emphasizing the impact of social norms and convenience on recycling behavior. The core of the chapter involves a case study using a questionnaire to assess the influence of social media on recycling attitudes and intentions. The results indicate that convenience and social influence are key factors driving recycling behavior, with social media playing a pivotal role in promoting a pro-environmental attitude. The study concludes by suggesting that organizations can leverage this influence to enhance recycling practices through targeted online campaigns.
