Abstract

Ensuring peace and security of the people is one of the concerns which have gained serious attention of many countries including Sri Lanka. Commission of crimes by individuals and organized crime syndicates, locally and internationally, leads to the demand of stringent security laws and strong criminal justice systems both at domestic and international levels. This chapter aims to investigate the security laws in the field of criminal justice in Sri Lanka, including their efficacy to combat a particular crime, namely, terrorism. The qualitative research method is followed to carry out this investigation of security or counterterrorism laws in Sri Lanka. Primary sources which are relevant to the research, including judicial pronouncements, are also discussed. Secondary sources, such as reports, research articles and textbooks on this topic and electronic resources are also reviewed for writing this chapter.
