Abstract

This chapter delves into the optimization of metal-composite lightweight structures, particularly focusing on hybrid metal-composite structures (MCS) in the automotive industry. It highlights the challenges and potential of MCS, which offer advantages in terms of function, design space, and weight. The text introduces a workflow for identifying and reducing relevant parameters in a generic hybrid metal-composite structure (GHS), enabling the creation of digital twins for quality assurance and advanced numerical modeling. The methodology presented allows for a deeper understanding of the complex interactions between geometrical, material, and manufacturing parameters, providing valuable insights for the efficient design of hybrid components. The chapter concludes with a call for further research into the topology design of injection molded parts and the extension of the parameter set to include material parameters and fiber orientation.
