Abstract

This chapter delves into the intersection of gamification and intrinsic motivation within the context of a mobile job-market application named JobQuiz. By incorporating game-like elements such as quizzes, points, and leaderboards, JobQuiz aims to enhance user engagement and motivation during the job application process. The study compares three versions of the application—minimally gamified, gamified, and highly gamified—to evaluate the effectiveness of gamification in boosting intrinsic motivation. The innovative quiz-based application method not only simplifies the initial screening process but also ensures fairness by ranking applicants based on job-specific knowledge rather than traditional factors like education or appearance. The research provides valuable insights into the design and implementation of gamification in serious contexts, contributing to the broader understanding of how to leverage game-like features to improve user experience and motivation.
